Authorities vow that Muizenberg bathing boxes will not be removed

Aimee Kuhl, Ward Councillor in the Muizenberg area says the City of Cape Town has no plans to remove the Muizenberg colourful beachfront huts despite a rumours that spread through Facebook.

Kuhl says the bathing boxes fall under a new department in ward 64 called 'Coastal Management'.

I've been discussing with different officials that some of them are in a real bad state, they are structurally unsafe.

Aimee Kuhl, Ward Councillor: 64

Obviously as the City of Cape Town and councilor we need to make sure that the boxes are safe to use says Kuhl.

She says that are also trying to make the boxes safe from criminal activities.

Today i put forward a motion to sub-council stating that we acknowledge that the bathing boxes are part of our heritage and my recommendation is that officials present a draft plan to engage stakeholders and manage them in future.

Aimee Kuhl, Ward Councillor: 64

Kuhl explains that they are doing assessments to all bathing boxes.
