De Lille: I did NOT spend public money to attend EFF'S Winnie memorial

Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille says she did not take a cent from the City's in order to finance her trip to a memorial of Mam'Winnie Madikizela-Mandela organised by the EFF.

This follows a petition by the DA requesting de Lille explain her reasons for attending the event.

I just want to assure everyone that I did not use half a cent or anything from the City of Cape Town. I paid for myself, the City will only pay for me when I go on an official business. I went there in my personal capacity.

De Lille says she doesn't see the need to explain herself to the DA saying, in her African culture, no one gets invited to a funeral, but rather it is everyone's duty to go and pay respect to the family.

If people want to make this an issue, I think it is very disrespectful to Mam'WinnieMandela. I can attend a memorial service anywhere, of any person that has fallen.

De Lille says she has responded to the DA, telling them that she will deal with this issue after Saturday's funeral.

She says anyone who wants to make speculations about why she attended the EFF event and whether she would be joining the EFF in future should ask her on Sunday after Mam' Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral.

Let's leave the rest for Sunday when we have laid Mam'Winnie to rest.
