I knew I wanted to be either a human rights lawyer or a political scientist. Nerdish, but it's true! I then studied law, but got sucked into philosophy studies at post-graduate level.
What soothes you?
Music! I looooove music. Especially 60s and 70s stuff. I'm the biggest fan of Solid Gold Weekend in the whole country. Music is the ultimate escapism, and mood setter. No need for drugs.
What irks you?
I struggle with people who are not curious about life. I need to learn to be ok with folks who don't lose sleep about their purpose in my life. I just don't get it.
Is there a book you read that changed your life?
Books are my life and I refuse to ever be drawn into choosing 'the one'! Authors, for sure: James Baldwin and J.M. Coetzee are my all time favourites.
The music you listen to most often?
Motown classics. Slow jams. But everything really - classical even. (I play classical piano)
Who would you go to the ends of the earth for?
No one - love should never be THAT mad! (Call me a cynic.)
Who is your greatest source of inspiration?
I'm just inspired by my the belief that we owe it to ourselves to be the best we can be.
Do you have any 'show off' coffee table books in your home?
Coffee books, like doilies, should be banned from all coffee tables.
Ever been left speechless on the air?
Not yet! Actually, I can't wait to be left speechless...
Who is the one person you would love to interview, but haven't yet had the pleasure?
Richard Dawkins. He's a great scientist, a brilliant general intellectual but a mediocre philosopher, so I wanna give him a run for his money on his views about religion - even though I'm an agnostic. Maybe I can get him on my new show!
